A slip-and-fall incident at a well-known casino has led to a legal battle that could have significant implications for premises liability cases. On November 20, 2025, Francis Geathers filed a complaint in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas against Chester Downs and Marina, LLC, doing business as Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino and Racetrack. The lawsuit stems from an incident on February 9, 2025, when Geathers allegedly slipped on ice in the casino’s parking lot, resulting in serious injuries.

According to the complaint filed by Geathers’ attorney, Brad R. Krupnick of Fine Staud and Levy, LLC, the plaintiff accuses Harrah’s of negligence in maintaining their property. The lawsuit claims that Harrah’s failed to properly manage the icy conditions of their parking lot, which directly led to Geathers’ fall and subsequent injuries. “Defendant knew or should have known of the defect and conditions of the property,” states the complaint, highlighting that Harrah’s was responsible for ensuring safe conditions on their premises.

The allegations against Harrah’s are extensive. The plaintiff argues that the casino neglected its duty by not removing ice from the parking lot or adequately warning patrons about potential hazards. Furthermore, it is claimed that Harrah’s allowed ice to accumulate without taking necessary precautions such as applying ice melt or inspecting the area regularly. This alleged oversight resulted in Geathers suffering injuries to his neck, back, right elbow, and head.

Geathers is seeking a judgment exceeding $50,000 for damages related to medical expenses, pain and suffering, loss of life’s pleasures, and potential future earnings loss due to his injuries. The complaint emphasizes ongoing medical treatment costs and asserts that these financial burdens will continue into the future due to Harrah’s alleged negligence.

The case underscores important issues surrounding premises liability and business responsibilities towards patrons’ safety. It raises questions about how businesses manage risks associated with weather-related hazards like ice accumulation. As this case progresses through the court system under Judge assigned Case ID: June Term 2025 No., it may set precedents for similar lawsuits involving slip-and-fall incidents on commercial properties.

Representing Francis Geathers is attorney Brad R. Krupnick from Fine Staud and Levy LLC based in Philadelphia. The defendant’s legal representation has not been specified in available documents.
