Erie man pleads guilty to federal methamphetamine distribution charge

A resident of Erie, Pennsylvania, has admitted guilt in federal court to charges related to methamphetamine possession and distribution. The announcement was made by First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

Shawn Geer, 49, entered a guilty plea to Count One of the Indictment before United States District Judge Stephanie L. Haines. According to information presented during the plea hearing, on July 2, 2023, Geer possessed with intent to distribute at least 50 grams of a methamphetamine mixture within the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Judge Haines set sentencing for March 24, 2026. The statutory penalties include a minimum sentence of five years and up to forty years in prison, as well as a possible fine reaching $5 million. Sentencing will be determined based on federal guidelines that consider both the severity of the offense and any prior criminal history.

Assistant United States Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon is leading the prosecution for the government. The investigation resulting in Geer’s prosecution was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Pennsylvania State Police.
