The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced the indictment of Andrew Dion, a 57-year-old inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution Lewisburg. The federal grand jury indicted Dion on July 24, 2025, on charges of possessing contraband in prison and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the indictment accuses Dion of possessing a broken wooden broom handle, about 13 inches long, which he allegedly used to assault another inmate on June 2, 2025. Additionally, Dion is accused of having a bent brush with exposed metal prongs measuring approximately eight inches.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robin Zenzinger is handling the prosecution.

Under federal law, these offenses carry a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and a fine. A sentence would also include supervised release following imprisonment. Sentencing occurs after considering federal sentencing statutes and guidelines.

It is important to note that indictments are merely allegations. All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
