A federal grand jury has indicted Davon Nelson, a 40-year-old Maryland resident, on charges of possessing a weapon while incarcerated at the Allenwood Federal Correctional Facility. The indictment was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that Nelson allegedly had a sharpened steel weapon, considered a prohibited object, on October 8, 2024, during his time as an inmate at Allenwood.

The investigation into the matter was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Lloyd is overseeing prosecution efforts in this case.

If convicted, Nelson faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison, supervised release after imprisonment, and a fine. Sentencing would be determined by a judge who will consider federal statutes and sentencing guidelines before imposing any penalty.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized that indictments are only allegations and all individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
