Five Philadelphia men were convicted on Mar. 19 of conspiring to commit at least 29 armed carjackings, including the murder of a carjacking victim and the murder of a potential witness, according to United States Attorney David Metcalf.
The convictions are significant due to the scale and violence involved in the crimes. The defendants targeted victims in Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs, using firearms and sometimes shooting their victims during carjackings. Many stolen vehicles were sold to buyers who shipped them overseas for resale.
Mikal McCracken, also known as “Kal,” was found guilty of charges related to a fatal carjacking and participating in a conspiracy to murder a potential witness. He was also convicted for his role in an additional 20 armed attempted or completed carjackings, five involving shootings. Amin Muse, known as “Miyn” or “Miyns,” was convicted on similar counts, including his involvement in eight other armed carjackings. Aleem Abdul-Hakim (“Fatleem”) was found guilty of charges tied to the fatal carjacking and five more armed incidents. Dean Fosque (“30”) faced convictions for nine armed carjackings with three shootings, while Kavon Coleman (“Ski”) was convicted for four such crimes, one involving a repeat victim.
According to court filings presented at trial, between October 2021 and October 2022, groups led by these individuals committed dozens of gunpoint carjackings across various neighborhoods. In addition to stealing cars, they took personal identification materials used later for fraud. The superseding indictment charged them with 29 specific incidents out of approximately 60 total believed connected to the conspiracy.
U.S. Attorney Metcalf said: “These defendants ran one of the most extensive and terrible carjacking rings in American history that terrorized and, in some cases killed, its victims. When viewed by the sheer scale and volume of violent robberies, this prosecution represents perhaps the most successful carjacking prosecution in the history of the Department of Justice… The streets we walk and drive on are now safer thanks to the fantastic work of the FBI and all of our law enforcement partners on the Philadelphia Carjacking Task Force.”
Wayne A. Jacobs, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Philadelphia said: “These convictions should send a clear message: those who commit brazen, violent crimes targeting our community will be identified, pursued, and held accountable… These convictions are a testament to our relentless pursuit of justice — for the victims who lost their lives… This investigation was driven by the expertise…of the FBI’s Violent Crime Task Force.”
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin J. Bethel said: “These individuals didn’t just steal cars — they terrorized neighborhoods… Thanks to the relentless work…this violent crew has been dismantled and held accountable.” Eric DeGree from ATF’s Philadelphia Field Division added that these convictions should serve as a deterrent as summer approaches.
The defendants await sentencing where they face possible life imprisonment terms.
