Darryl T. Wells, a former Deputy Sheriff Officer in Philadelphia, pleaded guilty to bank fraud on Tuesday. The announcement was made by United States Attorney David Metcalf. Wells, 34, appeared before United States District Judge Joel H. Slomsky for the plea.
Wells was indicted in January and admitted that he submitted eight fraudulent loan and credit applications to financial institutions between December 2018 and January 2019 while working for the City of Philadelphia as a Deputy Sheriff Officer. He falsely reported higher monthly income and included forged paystubs with some applications.
The total amount obtained through these fraudulent activities was $145,000. According to court documents, Wells immediately spent or transferred the funds and did not repay the financial institutions.
United States Attorney David Metcalf stated: “Wells was charged by indictment in January of this year.”
Wells is scheduled for sentencing on March 3. He could face up to 30 years in prison, five years of supervised release, and a $1 million fine.
The FBI conducted the investigation into this case. Assistant United States Attorney Samuel Dalke is prosecuting.
