Linda Tarlecki, 63, of Aristes, Columbia County, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty to charges of tax evasion and bank fraud. The plea was entered before Chief United States District Judge Matthew W. Brann.
According to Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, Tarlecki served as the Secretary/Treasurer for Conyngham Township in Columbia County. From 2013 through 2017, she issued forged paychecks to herself totaling more than $147,000 from township funds and Fulton National Bank accounts. She did not report this extra income on her personal tax returns, which led to a tax loss exceeding $38,000 for the Internal Revenue Service.
“This case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service. Assistant United States Attorney Geoffrey MacArthur prosecuted the case.”
The maximum sentence under federal law for these offenses is 35 years in prison, along with supervised release and a fine. Sentencing will be determined by the judge based on federal statutes and sentencing guidelines.
