The United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced charges against Daniel Reed, a former Assistant Director of Central Pennsylvania Youth Ministries. Reed, aged 51 and from Thompsontown, Juniata County, Pennsylvania, faces allegations of attempted production of child pornography, production of child pornography, and possession of child pornography.

Acting United States Attorney John Gurganus stated that the criminal complaint originated from a report by an adult female. She alleged she was “groomed” into a sexual relationship with Reed between the ages of 14 and 17. A “peep hole” and two-way mirror were reportedly found in the Youth Ministries’ second-floor hallway closet, overlooking a bathroom with a shower.

A search warrant executed at Reed’s residence led to the seizure of an electronic device containing internet searches related to hidden cameras for illicit purposes. Additionally, text messages were found encouraging two 16-year-old females to use the Youth Ministries’ shower facility. Law enforcement also discovered nude images on a hard drive seized from his residence. These images appeared to be taken from hidden cameras in bathrooms and bedrooms at the facility.

The FBI’s Philadelphia Field Office is actively seeking potential victims or anyone with information regarding this investigation. Individuals are encouraged to contact FBI Philadelphia’s State College Resident Agency at (814) 234-0341.

This case is being investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney K. Wesley Mishoe is leading the prosecution.

If convicted, Reed faces up to 70 years in prison along with supervised release following imprisonment, fines, and special assessments. Sentencing will be determined based on federal statutes and guidelines.

It is important to note that criminal complaints contain only allegations; all individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
