Gettysburg man faces mail theft charges

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced charges against Harry Hartman, a 54-year-old resident of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. On June 5, 2025, Hartman was charged with mail theft.

Acting U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the criminal information alleges Hartman stole packages from the Gettysburg Post Office between May 2023 and August 2024. These packages were intended for delivery to the Gettysburg College Print Center & Post Office and their recipients.

The investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the United States Postal Service – Office of Inspector General. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney K. Wesley (“Wes”) Mishoe.

If convicted, Hartman faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment, supervised release following imprisonment, a fine, and a special assessment. Sentencing will consider federal sentencing statutes and guidelines.

It is important to note that an information contains only allegations, and all individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
