A Guatemalan citizen has been charged by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh with illegal reentry into the United States, according to an announcement by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

The indictment names Domingo Gonzalez Perez, aged 43, as the sole defendant. The charges allege that Perez was discovered in western Pennsylvania on or about October 9, 2024, after having been previously removed from the United States around September 4, 2007.

The legal framework allows for a potential maximum sentence of up to two years in prison and a fine reaching $250,000. The actual sentence will be determined based on the seriousness of the offense and Perez’s prior criminal history, following federal Sentencing Guidelines.

Assistant United States Attorney V. Joseph Sonson is handling the prosecution for this case on behalf of the government. Homeland Security Investigations carried out the investigation that led to Perez’s indictment.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America, a nationwide effort utilizing Department of Justice resources to dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations while combating illegal immigration and protecting communities from violent crime.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
