A Guatemalan national, Esvin Emilio Lopez-Gonzalez, has been sentenced to time served after pleading guilty to illegal reentry into the United States. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

Senior United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti handed down the sentence to Lopez-Gonzalez, who is 27 years old. According to court information, Lopez-Gonzalez had previously been removed from the U.S. on May 7, 2018, following an illegal entry through Arizona. On May 28, 2025, he was encountered by special agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and could not provide identification. Immigration authorities determined that he had not received permission to reenter the country after his prior removal and was present in the U.S. illegally.

Lopez-Gonzalez has remained in custody since his arrest in May and will be transferred back to immigration authorities for removal proceedings.

Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski prosecuted the case for the government.

Acting United States Attorney Rivetti stated: “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations and the Federal Bureau of Investigation” were commended “for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Lopez-Gonzalez.”

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative focused on eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations as well as addressing illegal immigration and violent crime.
