Elvis Alfonso Lopez-Perez, a 32-year-old Guatemalan national residing in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to eight months in prison for illegally reentering the United States. The sentencing was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and delivered by United States District Judge Keli M. Neary.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that Lopez-Perez had previously been removed from the U.S. on February 1, 2013. He later reentered the country at an unspecified time without legal permission and was found in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, on May 28, 2024.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations. This operation involves resources from the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations along with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant United States Attorney Michael Scalera prosecuted the case.
