Johnstown man pleads guilty to federal drug trafficking charges

A Johnstown, Pennsylvania resident has pleaded guilty in federal court to narcotics trafficking charges, according to an announcement from First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

Jonathan Brunson, 54, entered his guilty plea before United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan on November 4, 2025. He pleaded guilty to Counts One, Two, Three, and Five of the Superseding Indictment.

According to information presented in court, between April 2019 and July 2021 in the Western District of Pennsylvania, Brunson conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute large quantities of illegal drugs. These included at least 500 grams of methamphetamine mixture, at least 28 grams of crack cocaine, at least 40 grams of fentanyl mixture, as well as amounts of heroin and cocaine. In June 2021, he possessed fentanyl mixture with intent to distribute; in April 2021 he possessed over 500 grams of methamphetamine mixture for distribution. Authorities intercepted Brunson through a federal wiretap while he was obtaining drugs that were later distributed.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 11, 2026. The law allows for a maximum sentence ranging from no less than ten years up to life imprisonment and a fine that could reach $10 million or both. The actual sentence will depend on the seriousness of the offenses and any prior criminal history under federal guidelines.

Assistant United States Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon is prosecuting the case.

The investigation leading to Brunson’s prosecution was conducted by several agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Laurel Highlands Resident Agency and Homeland Security Investigations. Other participating agencies include the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Internal Revenue Service–Criminal Investigation; United States Postal Inspection Service; Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General; Pennsylvania State Police; Cambria County District Attorney’s Office; Indiana County District Attorney’s Office; Cambria County Sheriff’s Office; Cambria Township Police Department; Indiana Borough Police Department; Johnstown Police Department; Upper Yoder Township Police Department; Richland Police Department; Ferndale Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies.
