The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced that Edelicio Castillo-Ramos, a 33-year-old Mexican citizen residing in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of illegal reentry.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the indictment alleges Castillo-Ramos was previously removed from the United States on July 12, 2012, through Calexico, California. He allegedly reentered without obtaining legal permission. The indictment further claims that on June 20, 2025, Castillo-Ramos was found in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, again without legal permission to be in the country.

The investigation into this case was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robin Zenzinger is handling the prosecution.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators. The operation utilizes resources from the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhoods.

Under federal law, the maximum penalty for this offense includes up to two years imprisonment, a fine, and supervised release following incarceration. Sentencing is determined by a judge after reviewing applicable federal statutes and guidelines.

It is important to note that indictments are only allegations; individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
