The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced that Gregorio Perez-Canceco, a 42-year-old Mexican national residing in York, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury. The indictment, dated June 18, 2025, charges him with one count of illegal reentry into the United States.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the indictment alleges Perez-Canceco was previously removed from the U.S. on October 4, 2017, through Hidalgo, Texas. It is further alleged that he was found in the U.S. again without obtaining legal permission to reenter. On May 23, 2025, Perez-Canceco was reportedly encountered in York County, Pennsylvania.

Under federal law, this offense carries a maximum penalty of up to ten years imprisonment, along with potential fines and supervised release. Sentencing follows a finding of guilt and considers applicable federal statutes and guidelines.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The operation involves resources from Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

The investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant United States Attorney Michael Scalera is handling the prosecution.

It is important to note that indictments are only allegations; all individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
