A Mexican national has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for illegally reentering the United States after previously being removed, according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti. Saul Ramirez-Rivera, 26, received his sentence from United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan on July 28, 2025.

Court records show that Ramirez-Rivera was involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident in Dormont, Pennsylvania on September 21, 2024. He was charged and later pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle, accident involving death or injury while not licensed, reckless driving, driving without a license, and failure to stop at a red signal.

During the investigation of the hit-and-run case, authorities determined that Ramirez-Rivera was present in the country without legal permission. Immigration officials found that he had previously been removed from the United States on February 13, 2019 following a federal conviction for illegal entry in Arizona. After completing his current sentence, Ramirez-Rivera will be transferred to immigration custody for removal proceedings.

Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski prosecuted the case.

Acting U.S. Attorney Rivetti stated: “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations as well as the Allegheny County Police are commended for their work in this investigation.”

The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations while addressing illegal immigration and violent crime across communities.
