Jayson Diaz, a 35-year-old resident of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, was sentenced on April 17 to 96 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by federal authorities to address drug trafficking and related offenses in the region. Diaz’s sentencing is part of a broader initiative targeting heroin traffickers as part of the Heroin Initiative led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

According to United States Attorney Brian D. Miller, between October 23 and November 19, 2024, a confidential source purchased cocaine and fentanyl from Diaz on four occasions. Investigators executed a search warrant at Diaz’s residence on November 21, seizing over one kilogram of cocaine, more than 250 grams of fentanyl, drug packaging materials, three firearms, and over $220,000 in cash. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Pennsylvania State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Jenny P. Roberts prosecuted the case.

The U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania operates under the Department of Justice according to its official website. The office handles prosecutions of federal crimes—including drug offenses—civil litigation for the government, victim assistance programs, reentry services that reduce recidivism through initiatives like Project Safe Neighborhoods according to its official website, and serves about 3.2 million residents across an area covering nearly 22 thousand square miles according to its official website.

Facilities operated by this office are located in Harrisburg, Scranton, Williamsport and Wilkes-Barre according to its official website. The jurisdiction covers thirty-three counties throughout central Pennsylvania according to its official website.

As part of their mission statement on community safety and rehabilitation efforts—which include victim support—the U.S. Attorney’s Office continues coordinated law enforcement actions aimed at combating illegal drug distribution.
