Naquan Simmons, a 31-year-old resident of Bronx, New York, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for making false statements in connection with the purchase of firearms. The sentencing was handed down by Senior United States District Judge Malachy E. Mannion on November 24, 2025.
According to United States Attorney Brian D. Miller, Simmons traveled to a gun store in Wilkes-Barre Township, Luzerne County on September 22, 2022. He was accompanied by a woman suffering from opioid use disorder who purchased two guns under her name for Simmons, who was legally barred from buying firearms himself. In exchange for her actions, Simmons provided the woman with heroin. One of these firearms was later recovered in Bronx, New York.
Later, on August 15, 2023, Simmons entered another gun store in Plains Township with a man whom he supplied with crack cocaine. The man attempted to buy a firearm on behalf of Simmons but did not receive it due to law enforcement intervention.
At the time these offenses occurred, Simmons was already under federal supervised release in the Southern District of New York following convictions for conspiracy to commit racketeering and using a firearm during a violent crime.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Luzerne County Drug Task Force investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts prosecuted.
