United States Attorney David Metcalf announced that Isiah Surzano-Glover, 22, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 168 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Karen S. Marston for two armed carjackings.
In March 2024, Surzano-Glover was charged by indictment and pleaded guilty in November to two counts of carjacking and one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
According to court documents and the defendant’s admission, on January 2, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., Surzano-Glover and accomplices lured victim P.M. to the 5400 block of Walker Street in Philadelphia using a dating app under the guise of a female named “Mercedes.” Upon arrival, P.M. was approached by masked individuals who brandished guns and threatened him. They took his keys, wallet, phone, and drove away in his Ford Crown Victoria.
The following day, January 3, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the defendant and others used the same app ruse to lure R.E. to the 1700 block of Brill Street in Philadelphia. Once there, masked carjackers pointed handguns at R.E., pistol-whipped him in the head with a gun, took his keys and phone before ordering him to run away as they drove off in his Toyota Tacoma.
About half an hour after R.E.’s carjacking incident occurred, Philadelphia police found R.E.’s Tacoma parked unattended at Valley Street. Officers later observed P.M.’s Crown Victoria parked nearby and placed it under surveillance.
At around 10:15 p.m., officers followed P.M.’s vehicle when it drove off from its location towards Valley Street where it sped off upon seeing police presence leading to a pursuit. Multiple individuals exited P.M.’s vehicle during this chase but eventually led to Surzano-Glover’s arrest after he attempted fleeing on foot.
Surzano-Glover also admitted involvement in four other carjackings within Philadelphia aside from those mentioned above.
This case was investigated jointly by ATF along with Philadelphia Police Department while prosecution efforts were led by Assistant United States Attorneys Michael Miller alongside Kwambina Coker.
