United States Attorney David Metcalf announced that Jonathan “Jon” Beaulieu, 32, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to one year of probation and ordered to pay $59,143 in restitution. The sentence was handed down by United States Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Hey for Beaulieu’s violation of airport security requirements.
Beaulieu was charged in January and pleaded guilty in February. According to court documents and statements, the incident occurred on June 26, 2024, at approximately 12:12 a.m. A security guard identified as J.M. was stationed at the Terminal C exit lane of Philadelphia International Airport to prevent unauthorized access to the sterile area beyond the TSA checkpoint.
Beaulieu approached J.M., claiming he needed to retrieve his phone left inside the airport. After J.M. informed police dispatch about Beaulieu’s request and received a response that they could not assist with retrieving the phone, Beaulieu attempted to bypass security by walking past J.M., who repeatedly told him he could not enter.
In an attempt to gain access, Beaulieu placed a $50 bill on J.M.’s desk and asked if it would allow him entry. Despite leaving the bill untouched, J.M. continued to deny him access and called police dispatch again when Beaulieu tried to circumvent her position.
Ignoring warnings, Beaulieu entered the sterile area and proceeded further into the airport. This prompted J.M. to report a security breach over police radio with a description of Beaulieu. Security personnel monitoring cameras observed him boarding a plane at Gate A-20.
Philadelphia police responded as the plane was preparing for departure with closed doors. Upon notification of an unscreened passenger aboard, the plane returned to the gate where all passengers were disembarked, leading to Beaulieu’s arrest. The unscreened boarding necessitated a full search of the aircraft, resulting in flight cancellation costs amounting to $59,143 reported by American Airlines.
The investigation involved both the FBI and Philadelphia Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Everett Witherell.
