A Philadelphia resident has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for leading a large-scale drug trafficking organization. Mikal Davis, aged 47, was handed the sentence by United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan. In addition to the prison term, Davis will also face five years of supervised release.
The sentencing follows Davis’s conviction on charges of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute various drugs, including heroin, cocaine, crack, fentanyl, and methamphetamine. The activities occurred between April 2019 and July 2021 in the Western District of Pennsylvania.
According to court information, Davis conspired with others to distribute significant quantities of drugs. He led operations in Philadelphia and Johnstown and was intercepted through a federal wiretap while obtaining drugs for distribution. Drug shipments were transported between these cities and stored at stash houses for further distribution. Additionally, Davis coordinated with sources in California and New Jersey for drug resupply.
Assistant United States Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti acknowledged several agencies involved in the investigation that led to Davis’s prosecution. These included the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Laurel Highlands Resident Agency, Homeland Security Investigations, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Internal Revenue Service–Criminal Investigation among others.
This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation aimed at dismantling high-level drug traffickers and criminal organizations threatening the United States through a collaborative law enforcement approach.
