United States Attorney David Metcalf has announced the sentencing of Joseph Perkins, a 31-year-old Philadelphia resident, to seven years in prison for robbing four banks. The sentence was delivered by United States District Judge Karen S. Marston and includes three years of supervised release.
Perkins was indicted in October 2024 on four counts of bank robbery and pleaded guilty in March. According to court filings, he used threatening demand notes to obtain money from bank personnel during a two-week spree.
The robberies occurred as follows: on August 26, 2024, at Citizens Bank inside ACME Market at 2497 Aramingo Avenue; on August 29, 2024, at Citizens Bank at 2101 Cottman Avenue; on September 4, 2024, at TD Bank at 6304 Roosevelt Boulevard; and on September 7, 2024, at TD Bank at 2267 East Butler Street. While Perkins managed to get cash from the first three robberies, he fled empty-handed from the fourth.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task Force and the Philadelphia Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Kwambina Coker is prosecuting the case.
