United States Attorney David Metcalf announced that Anthony Randall, also known as “Anthony McZeal,” was sentenced to 25 years and 19 days in prison. The sentence was delivered by United States District Judge Timothy J. Savage and includes five years of supervised release following the prison term. Randall, a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, faced charges for armed robbery and gun offenses.

Randall’s indictment occurred in February 2024 on two counts of robbery interfering with interstate commerce (Hobbs Act robbery) and one count related to using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence. He entered a guilty plea in March of this year.

The charges stem from two specific robberies: the September 1, 2021, gunpoint robbery at a CVS store on Wadsworth Avenue in Philadelphia, and the September 11, 2021, gunpoint robbery at the Philadelphia Pretzel Factory store on the same avenue. Randall also confessed to committing an additional 17 armed robberies in the fall of 2021.

These criminal activities began shortly after Randall’s release from federal prison in March 2021. His prior incarceration was due to six armed robberies committed in 2006.

“Anthony Randall terrorized the community during his extreme armed robbery spree — all while on supervised release for his previous string of gunpoint crimes,” stated U.S. Attorney Metcalf. “Prosecuting committed offenders like this is a priority for my office. We’ll continue to get violent criminals off the street and make Philadelphia safer.”

Wayne A. Jacobs, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia Division added, “No one should have to live or work in fear. Armed robberies don’t just endanger lives; they erode the sense of safety that every person deserves. Today’s sentencing sends a clear message: the FBI is unwavering in its commitment to protecting our communities and holding violent offenders accountable for their actions.”

The investigation into this case was conducted by the FBI Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task Force along with the Philadelphia Police Department. The prosecution team included Assistant United States Attorneys Michael Miller and Amanda Reinitz.
