A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for his involvement in an armed robbery at a North Philadelphia dollar store. Khyrie Brown, 25, received the sentence from United States District Judge Gerald J. Pappert and will also serve three years of supervised release. Brown was ordered to pay full restitution for the crime.
Brown was indicted in July 2024 on charges of Hobbs Act robbery, which concerns robberies that interfere with interstate commerce. He pleaded guilty in March 2025.
According to court records and Brown’s own admissions, on November 6, 2023, around 6:30 p.m., Brown and three other men entered a dollar store located on the 2800 block of Ridge Avenue. One member of the group pretended to buy several items while another displayed what appeared to be a black handgun and directed the store clerk to open the safe. Two members jumped over the counter as Brown removed a cash drawer from the safe. The group left with approximately $3,000 in coins and currency.
After fleeing in a waiting vehicle, police tracked them to the area near 30th and Gordon streets. A police K9 found Brown hiding inside an abandoned property on North 30th Street.
The investigation was led by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski is prosecuting the case.
United States Attorney David Metcalf stated: “This case was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski.”
