A Pittsburgh resident has been indicted by a federal grand jury for violating federal firearms law, according to Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti. The indictment charges Raymont Tyrone Dillard, 36, with possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.
The indictment alleges that on December 30, 2024, Dillard possessed these items despite being prohibited by federal law from doing so due to his status as a convicted felon. If convicted, the law mandates a sentence ranging from 15 years to life in prison and/or a fine up to $250,000. The actual sentence would depend on the severity of the offense and Dillard’s prior criminal record.
Assistant United States Attorney Mark V. Gurzo is handling the prosecution. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives alongside the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy on May 26, 2021, which emphasizes building community trust, supporting preventive community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation; Dillard is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
