A Pittsburgh man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to firearm possession, according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.
The indictment identifies Jamar Perminter, 26, as the sole defendant. Authorities allege that Perminter was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition on or about July 31, 2025. Perminter is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to a prior felony conviction. Federal law bars individuals with felony records from owning or possessing guns or ammunition.
If convicted, Perminter faces a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing decisions will consider both the seriousness of the offense and any previous criminal history.
Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher is leading the prosecution for the government. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was responsible for conducting the investigation that resulted in this indictment.
Authorities emphasized that an indictment is only an accusation and that “a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.”
