A man from Rossiter, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison after being convicted of possessing a destructive device. Roam L. Beer, 51, received a sentence of 97 months in incarceration and three years of supervised release following his conviction.
Senior United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer delivered the sentence after a jury found Beer guilty on August 7, 2025. Evidence presented at trial showed that on January 5, 2024, Beer threw an ignited homemade explosive device containing steel shot at the residence of his estranged wife. She was inside the house near where the device struck but was not injured.
Judge Fischer referenced Beer’s criminal record before sentencing and stated that he had “moved from threats to making bombs,” calling the offense “a very dangerous act warranting a serious penalty.”
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shaun E. Sweeney. First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti recognized the efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and New Kensington Police Department for their work in investigating and prosecuting Beer.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through cooperation between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department launched an updated violent crime reduction strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021, which emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting organizations focused on violence prevention, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and tracking results.
