A federal grand jury has indicted Lee Wood, 48, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, on charges related to drug trafficking. The indictment alleges that Wood conspired with others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine between May 28, 2024, and August 17, 2024. It also claims that on August 8, 2024, Wood distributed and possessed cocaine with the intent to distribute.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), and the Lackawanna County Drug Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Lloyd is prosecuting the case.

The prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America (https://www.justice.gov/dag/media/1393746/dl?inline), a national initiative designed to combat illegal immigration and dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations by leveraging resources from multiple Department of Justice programs.

If convicted under federal law for these offenses, Wood faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, supervised release after incarceration, and a fine. Sentencing will be determined by a judge based on federal statutes and sentencing guidelines.

Officials emphasized that indictments are only allegations at this stage and all individuals charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
