Abel Huertas, a 28-year-old resident of Shamokin, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 57 months in prison for trafficking methamphetamine. The sentence was handed down by Chief Judge Matthew W. Brann and includes four years of supervised release and 30 hours of community service.

United States Attorney Brian D. Miller stated that Huertas distributed at least 50 grams of methamphetamine in Northumberland County during May 2022.

The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Northumberland County Drug Task Force, the Pennsylvania State Police, as well as police departments from Bloomsburg, Sunbury, Shamokin, and Coal Township. The case was prosecuted by former Assistant U.S. Attorney Geroge J. Rocktashel and Assistant U.S. Attorney Alisan V. Martin.

This prosecution is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. According to the release: “OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten the United States by using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach that leverages the strengths of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies against criminal networks.”
