The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania will participate in National Night Out events on August 5, 2025. The office plans to join with law enforcement partners and community members across several counties, including Lackawanna, Luzerne, Dauphin, and Lebanon.
National Night Out is a yearly campaign that aims to strengthen relationships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. The event takes place on the first Tuesday of August in most areas across the country and involves millions of participants from thousands of communities.
Representatives from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, including Assistant United States Attorneys and staff, will attend local gatherings to interact with residents and share information about departmental initiatives.
Acting United States Attorney John Gurganus stated, “The U.S. Attorney’s Office is proud to join our law enforcement partners and communities across the district for National Night Out. It’s a great opportunity to come together and continue to strengthen relationships and meet the citizens we serve.”
National Night Out began in 1984 with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance at the U.S. Department of Justice. The program is managed by the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit group operating nationwide.
Local police departments coordinate activities such as block parties, cookouts, safety demonstrations, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, parades, festivals, seminars and more. These efforts are intended to foster positive interactions between police officers and neighbors while sending a message about community unity around safety.
