A Pittsburgh resident has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor, according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.
Kevin Patrick Brown Jr., 35, who lives in the West View neighborhood of Pittsburgh, is named as the sole defendant in the three-count indictment. The indictment alleges that in August 2019, Brown used, persuaded, induced, enticed, and coerced a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions of such conduct. He is also charged with receiving child sexual abuse material in August 2019 and possessing such material in October 2021.
If convicted, Brown faces a maximum sentence of up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing will depend on the seriousness of the offenses and any prior criminal history.
Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher is prosecuting the case. The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation that led to Brown’s indictment.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood brings together federal, state, and local resources to locate and prosecute individuals who exploit children and to identify victims. Authorities remind that an indictment is only an accusation and that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
