Matthew Bair, 36, of Windsor, Pennsylvania, was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 4 for allegedly possessing firearms as a convicted felon, according to a March 16 announcement from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

The case is significant because it involves allegations of illegal firearm possession by someone with a prior felony conviction. Such cases are prosecuted under federal law to address concerns about gun violence and public safety.

United States Attorney Brian D. Miller said the indictment alleges that Bair unlawfully possessed an Aero Precision rifle and a Ruger pistol on February 28, 2025, in York County. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Pennsylvania State Police investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Carlo D. Marchioli is prosecuting.

If convicted, Bair faces up to 15 years in prison, supervised release after imprisonment, and a fine. Sentencing would be determined by a judge who considers federal statutes and sentencing guidelines.

Officials emphasized that indictments are only allegations and all persons charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
